Adding Google ads to Tag Manager

[00:00:00] Okay, so now that we have everything linked, uh, we need to add the Google Ads tag to Tags Manager. So that throws that in your website. So let’s go back to a screen share here. I’ll do that as well. Uh, we’re gonna go back to our ad account up here. We’re gonna go to tools and settings up top. And we’re going to go to conversions.

[00:00:18] And you’re gonna go to, actually, before we do conversions, you’re going to go to, uh, they move this around all the time. And this was set up previously, so. . If you click linked accounts, you now should see, see, manage, and link. You should see two installed. There’s, see how I linked this earlier? There’s my Steve, the coach one my fake thing.

[00:00:42] So that’s good. Uh, we’re gonna unlink that here in a second cuz that’s a fake account. But we’ll go back to tools and settings and uh, Google tag. We’ve already got that.[00:01:00]

[00:01:00] So the way that we can add our Google Ads account with tags manager, we’re gonna go to tags. So go to tag manager.google this page. Go add a new tag tag condition and we’re gonna go add, uh, conversion. I think it’s conversion, linkers, what they call it now.

[00:01:17] We don’t want ad calls.

[00:01:22] No, we wanna go back to Ads Manager and Stuart here. So we’re gonna tools and settings, we’re gonna go to conversions. And first conversion event I’m gonna add is from a website and we’re just gonna say, Hey, go scan my website really quick. Nothing’s gonna come of this, it’s gonna come back with a bunch of stuff that doesn’t make any sense.

[00:01:41] It’s add a conversion action manually, and we’re gonna call this signups. right there. So I’m gonna call this new registrations. And then, uh, in our business we don’t really count leads as something that’s worth [00:02:00] something, so don’t use a value. I want you to count every single one, and I’m gonna leave this alone.

[00:02:06] Okay? So it done. And see how it says sign ups right here. Leave that alone. We can click settings. If you need to edit those ever, that’s fine. You’re probably not going. You need to, We’re gonna go to save and continue.

[00:02:26] And, um, we can do, use Google Tags Manager and see where it says, um, conversion tracking. We need a conversion id. Uh, and then new registrations. Uh, for the label. So we’re gonna go back over to Tags Manager right now and we need to tell tags manager when to fire this. So this is going to be a conversion linker, and if we go, uh, we do not wanna link on all page URLs.

[00:02:52] This is going to be new registrations conversion linker. [00:03:00] So we want a conversion linker. And it’s gonna say, uh, let’s see where it is here. I don’t think it’s that.

[00:03:23] Nope, that’s at it.

[00:03:31] We’ll deal with this here in a second, but there should be a spot the last time we check this up.

[00:03:43] Oh, Google adss Conversion tracking. I selected the wrong one, so we’re gonna discard this. We’re gonna go to New Tag, and this one should be. Right here. Google adds conversion tracking, not conversion linker. So see how it asks for conversion. Id label all that stuff. So we’re gonna go back to [00:04:00] ads. There’s our conversion id.

[00:04:05] Let’s see what else it gives us.

[00:04:09] New registrations is a conversion label, so we need to copy that.

[00:04:23] I think it’s that.

[00:04:42] Yeah, we do need this conversion linking tag on all of it, but I think new registrations for that.[00:05:00]

[00:05:01] Right. Don’t quote me on this. We may need to go back in there and change it, but that’s That’s correct. Conversion linking. Yes. We wanna enable that. Leave all this stuff alone. And I only wanna fire this tag, so I’m gonna call this new registrations. Google ads. I only wanna fire this tag. I don’t wanna fire it on all pages cuz not all pages are, uh, are, are considered a conversion.

[00:05:25] And what we’re asking it to do is only fire this tag on the pages that you think a new lead will see. So we’re gonna do plus up here and we’re gonna say, um, page view and we’re gonna say some page view, page host names, page URL contains and we’re gonna say dash success. and we’re just gonna say success pages.

[00:05:49] So again, some page views, Path URL contains dash success hits save. And now you’ll notice if I click here, [00:06:00] let’s delete that. I now have a new thing that says only run this on success pages. So I’m only gonna run it there. I’m gonna hit. . That’s good to go. I still need to submit this. I’m not done yet. Uh, I need to add one more tag.

[00:06:14] So I’m gonna go to tags, new tag configuration, G Google conversion linker. And then I want this to go on every page. If you have multiple domains like we do, um, ours will be, would be like, page is Steve Olson.

[00:06:40] And we wanna trigger this on all pages.

[00:06:51] Save it. And now you’ll notice here we have two tags that we need to publish. So if you’re gonna overview, it’s gonna say three added, uh, none [00:07:00] modified. And you see how it says added. We’re gonna go to submit, and this is gonna say, I just write new Google tags. You know, whatever. Right? Or you’re gonna put in conversion linking and, uh, registrations tag.

[00:07:15] It’s just for your reference. Hit publish. . And then again, if I, if I refresh my page here, I don’t know if these are gonna show up, but let’s see.

[00:07:29] We’re gonna do a shift refresh here. Whoops.

[00:07:38] Yeah, I don’t know if those show up. I could be wrong.

[00:07:45] I don’t think those show up, but that tag, those tags are installed now. So that’s how you add, uh, conversion linking and all of that stuff. It says that’s live, which is great. If we refresh that. There you go. [00:08:00] Uh, that’s it. That’s how you launch all of that stuff in the next video. Now we can create audiences inside.

[00:08:05] Uh, Google Analytics so we can run those against ads. Let’s set that up right now.
